While there are events, exhibits and activities throughout the district, here are just a few:

Lorraine Elementary
“Famous Black Americans from Georgia” Themed Hallway Displays: Kindergarten – authors, First grade – musicians, Second grade – athletes, Third grade – educators, Fourth grade and SID/PID – Dr. Martin Luther King, Fifth grade – government officials.
Scavenger hunt for students.

Door Decorating Contest, Feb. 1-15. Themes: 6th grade - Performing Arts, Painters, Musicians, 7th grade - Inventors, 8th grade - Literary Heroes.
Poem Contest, one winner per grade.
Black History Month assembly, guest speakers Sheriff Eric Levett and Magistrate Court Chief Judge Phinia Aten, Feb. 27, 3 p.m.

Black History Month Production, "We Will Remember Our Past to Shape Our Future," hosted by G.I.F.T.S. (Girls In Focus To Succeed) Club, Feb. 28, student shows 11:30 a.m. & 12:50 p.m.; evening show open to public at 6:30 p.m., tickets $5 adults/$3 students. Featuring music, dance, spoken word, theater performances.
Daily announcements with profiles of famous African Americans in U.S. history.

Alpha Academy
Black History Presentation, Feb. 28, 10 a.m., with:
Guest speakers,
Hank Stewart - community and youth activist, mentor, and world renowned poet who has performed all over the nation, including performances for the Obamas at the White House.
Jhavaun Green - President of the Lithonia Business Assoc., Co-Founder of the Harriet Tubman School for Leadership and Enterprise, Inc., author, economist, and philanthropist.
And original educational play by Amanda Otuah - Playwrite, Actress/Performer, graduate of Savannah State University.
